Homework & Study Tips
Our approach to homework is guided by the SEE Learning® framework, which recognizes that learning is most effective when children feel focused, supported, and calmly engaged. We organize our homework and study tips using the three SEE Learning® dimensions: Awareness, Compassion, and Engagement.
Awareness
Awareness helps children notice their thoughts, feelings, and body signals so they can focus and learn more effectively.
At home, you can support awareness by:
- Starting homework with a brief pause, such as taking three slow breaths together
- Asking children how they are feeling before they begin
- Encouraging short breaks to stretch, move, or get water
Compassion
Compassion helps children treat themselves with kindness and patience, especially when learning feels challenging.
At home, you can support compassion by:
- Reminding children that mistakes are part of learning
- Using encouraging language like “You’re still learning” or “Let’s try again together”
- Helping children notice their effort, not just the result
Engagement
Engagement helps children build positive routines and stay calmly involved in their learning.
At home, you can support engagement by:
- Creating a consistent homework routine in a calm, comfortable space
- Offering simple choices (which task to do first, where to sit)
- Keeping homework time short, focused, and balanced with movement and play
When Homework Feels Hard
If your child becomes overwhelmed, it’s okay to pause. Taking a movement break, breathing together, or returning to the work later can help reset the body and mind. These moments support emotional regulation and help learning feel safe and manageable.
These practices are meant to support a healthy, positive relationship with learning at home. Families are encouraged to adapt them in ways that feel supportive and developmentally appropriate for their child.

Social & Emotional Wellbeing
In School
At Ocean of Wisdom School, social and emotional wellbeing is an essential part of how children grow, learn, and connect. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and valued. Through our use of the SEE Learning® framework, we intentionally nurture emotional awareness, resilience, compassion, and a sense of belonging within our school community.
Students practice skills such as:
- Noticing and naming emotions
- Using calming strategies to manage big feelings
- Communicating respectfully with peers and adults
- Working together through cooperative activities
- Participating in movement and quiet reflection
- Building caring and supportive relationships
These practices support healthy nervous systems, positive peer relationships, and a strong foundation for lifelong wellbeing.
